I have kept you in mind for greater things,
For greater times.
Like the seven wonders one reverentially
puts off seeing,
Like a glimpse of a mist-clad mountain once viewed-
Over everyday plains and fields
You flicker, haltingly, then longingly
Like a glittering gold light
Upon my being.
And although I will yearn for you
Obstinately, against reason-
And like a miser hoard all
brief encounters and moments
That shimmer-
momentarily when polished,
You will glimmer in the background
Till greater things-
For greater times.
