Grey Day Poem by Rich Harney

Grey Day

Rating: 5.0

I walked that darkened alley way
that day, that icy grey,
that bleaker cloud sat solemn
behind the old church.

A hymn was faint and sweet to me
it hung in crackling air
the stillness of the earth was present there.

A lone grackle streaked the sky
It landed on a fence.
It cackled many grievances,
a winter badly spent.

Mixed with strains of Oh Holy Night
and a tom cat on the prowl
the moment seemed illusory
yet, still, somehow.

I buttoned up my over coat
and pulled my scarf around
the chill frost billowed from my breath.

The quiet crunch of footsteps
upon the snowy ground
I felt as if I disturbed the universe.
Hurrying fartheron,
passing windows full of merry,
town folk celebrating Christmas Yule

The moment seemed a melody
I didn't want to end
And I am made anew
by winter's fool.
