Growth Hindrance Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Growth Hindrance

When characters are not of Christ
When lives remain the same
Nothing for God we’ve sacrificed
Will glorify His name

Our mouths remain demonic tools
Gossip our ears delight
Our eyes yet seek just like the fools
What reprobates excite

Deceit and lies are nothing strange
Talents parade with pride
Our lustful thoughts have seen no change
From which was first inside

Our skills our dreams our self desire
Like silver, jewels and gold
Will end like chaff in endless fire
If stony hearts stay cold

Our finest works our greatest deeds
The selfish prayers we pray
Will join the tares and worthless weeds
Forever and a day

We need to change we need to learn
Obey and love God’s word
Then heart and soul full joy will burn
When truth of Christ is heard

The served should serve their fellow man
The rich should help the poor
The wise should teach of Heaven’s plan
To wanderers unsure

When heart and soul in truth we give
When love becomes our guide
When Jesus’ Way we seek and live
Then God is glorified
