Hapless Poem by Michael Oluwasegun Adesiji

Hapless

•Hapless•

I own this head of a Man
One that wears the crown
Of bills and burdens,
Of problems unsolved,
Of requests in series.
I own this head
Of a barricade of thoughts.

I own this head
That saddles momma's wants,
Daughters needs,
Madam's bills.
You may never find the ropes
Or the grips,
but I am the camel in human form
Like the four-legged slave,
I am on a trip to my grave.
With my worries and struggles unpaid.

Unpaid, because I choose to be me.
Because my tears are hardly seen
Because I break, but far from the sights
Of Maureen and Doreen.

I own this head of a man
The one empathy skips for being me
When hope seems unforeseen
In me, you will find another Merlin
Who is there again for nothing,
but the magics.

What again makes my gain?
Maybe the flowers
That beautifies my resting place
When I eventually get laid
Maybe, just maybe
The beautiful grave.
