Hawthorn Poem by Mary Champion

Hawthorn

In winter you die
in a crown of thorns. In Spring
you rise green again.

In May, your blossom,
like a veil of bridal white,
bedecks the hedgerows.

Beautiful May tree,
now morphed into a maypole -
for fertility.
