Heartache In Hephzibah Poem by Mishy Bashert

Heartache In Hephzibah

His glossy curls
Fan her face
As she lay
Against his chest
Listening intensely
To the heart
She has bruised

Long ago
Rescued from relationship riptide
A soulful solace between them
Sealed in a smoky haze
Of tie-dye love
And puppy kisses

She cannot answer
The why
Of when
He stopped
Seeing her
Celebrating her
Relishing in their mutual victory

And still
She desires him decisively
Entwined in his love and anguish
She tends the scars
She willingly endured
For the he
He could maybe be

Now
It is she
Unable to soothe
His suffering
To be loved
By her
To be seen
By her
Now other eyes
Have seen her too

His heart aching
Breaks hers
She loves fiercely
In hopes of mending them
Into something anew
Fearful her clumsy sewing
Will not hold them
Still, she stitches
Still, she stitches
