Hello, Melanoma Poem by chris schwartz

Hello, Melanoma

Hello, Melanoma.
You seem like an honorable disease.
You are why I made an appointment
Finally, which the Dr.,
To Diagnose,
Something so Fatal,
Yet so relieving
To my mind.
If the truth were ever told,
I would not have died
From you.
I would not have kept you hidden
Like an Ace card
In my wallet of pain.
I wanted to die in honor
Like a warrior,
So you fit the bill,
But in looking back at my life
You are the one thing
I still found the courage
To tackle.
You see,
I have PTSD.
I fear every corner
I turn around
And picture every ship I sail
As if it were the Titanic,
Destined to sink and die
Suffering,
Gasping for air
As I go down.
Melanoma,
You do not phase me.
I will coast through this with
The courage and strength
Of someone who knows
What must come down.
You seem honorable.
And I will embrace you.
Dying the death,
I was never able to escape
In the first place,
But dying with an honorable
Ending.
Abuse never wins.

Absolutely love it! Unusual honesty, unusual point of view.
