Here We Dared Poem by Charles Eastland

Here We Dared

HERE WE DARED...
(Howell, New Jersey)

Here we dared…
allowed wild love
to ride us off-road

Our two-state country
with open borders
for happy animals

No grids art sex
domains of splash
all fluids and form

Here you sewed
our painted love
seamed up the odds

Here I played life
sweet guitar harmonies
in a home never dreamed

With calm sewing hums
you created our costumes
in new threading Hope

And with love stitched
together came mending
of my brokenness

Here I played music
to dull the sirens
of danger

Sweet salve melodies
in mirrors of birds
trees leaned to canvas

I lit my candles here
to feel something lost
in the wilted illusions

Back when I was crazy
and cried to be normal
like you
