History Lesson Poem by Minnie Gehrig

History Lesson

She had never met my Great grandmother before,
yet she picked the chicken off the bone,
with such simmularity,
that things long forgotten begin to brush the surface,
now she grabs the napkin and daintly wiping the corners of her mouth
prompt me to begin a history lesson long overdue!

I must apoligize my dearest gramma great that i did not inturduce you
till now to your great great grandaughter,

Whom like you has a sweet smile and brown eyes,
likes to dance ans sing as you did and shares your passion for chicken.

Let me till you then child of your great gramma how she was a flapper,
and the rose lady for the church,
her beautifull voice heard on the radio and in the choir,
She was good at gin and enjoyed rum and fine wine,
She owned 17 poodles and 30 parakeets, whom upon there demise she froze until the spring which she thought was the only proper time to bury them, me and grandma would dig the holes the first thaw, but that is another story!
