History Of Love Poem by Alejandro Torres

History Of Love

If I had a million words
I’d use them all on you
I wouldn’t waste not one
Because you’re worth so much more
But words for you and a heart
Are the only things I have
To offer a Muse
This poet could become an artist
But I don’t think there could be a way
To draw you my heart
On the precarious scale you hold
Cause I’d tip it in my favor
Each page
But I’ve given you something more
Than most others would attempt
I’ve given you my soul
Something I recently found
When I saw the twinkle in your eyes
For the first time
When I brought a smile
To your Cupid bow lips
When my ears heard the beautiful melody
That is your laughter
That oh so long ago
That doesn’t seem like anything more
Than yesterday
So I spent hours in silence
Forgoing speech
For written lines
Of love
Since your ears would not hear
My weak voice
Anymore
So I present you with this gift
From that heart you owned
The moment you caught my eye
And the soul
You never asked for
Words on pages
In a book titled history
For you
Only
