Hollywood And The Death Of The Ship’s Captain Poem by Bill Grace

Hollywood And The Death Of The Ship’s Captain

When age eight or so
If memory still serves at sunset
The World War II movie was called: “Away All Ships”
The captain at his post was killed
Waving his arms frantically at the Kamikaze
Shouting: “Get away from my ship! ”
“Get away from my ship! ”
In much the same spirit
In equal futility - and wonder –
Thirty years later I destroyed a career.
I wonder if Hollywood had allowed the good captain to live
If he too could not have survived
To yet achieve his finest day.
