Hope Poem by Sommy Okeke

Hope

At dawn I chase the light I cannot hold,
It slips between my fingers like a sigh;
I swear it waits for me just past the sky,
Yet fades the moment it is closely told.
My heart insists the truth is neatly scrolled
Within the stars that wheel their reasons high,
But doubt returns, a soft and patient spy,
To count the dreams I've squandered for its gold.

Still hope survives, though thinned by careful fear,
It teaches loss to speak in gentler tones;
Through grief, the soul learns how to softly bend.
For love endures what time will not make clear,
And from the ache of broken hours and bones,
A wiser, quieter faith begins to mend.
