Horn Crag Poem by Jonas Hallgrimsson

Horn Crag

High on Horn Crag's summit
(you hear them say out west)
a single snow-white eagle
sits on its lonely nest.*

Midnight suns are slowly
circling it while the flood
swirls below with sea mist --
it sits there red as blood.

It looks at the great celestial
light and it never blinks,
ignoring the gulf beneath it
where a nightbound schooner sinks.
