Hurricane Poem by Parker Perrella

Hurricane

I'm in a hurricane-
The radar lit up with color,
Skies pouring down rain,
The streets underwater.
Wind whipping-
So much at stake-
I see the screen ripping,
The chairs flipping
Not too far away-
I don't know how much more I can take.

They told me to go find shelter.
They shouted and tried to pull me along,
But I chose to stay in the rain-
I would melt here
If I stayed for too long.
The water was cold-
On my skin-
If I went knocking now,
Would they let me in?
I'm afraid…

I knocked,
Knuckles numb from the cold,
Or was it fear taking its toll?
I knocked harder
Until He answered the door-
I went to speak,
He said, "Say no more.
"Come in and find shelter-"
So I stepped in the door,
Water dripping from my clothes on to the floor.
Then He wrapped me in His arms-
A warm embrace-
And He said, "Welcome home,
"My beloved daughter, "
With a smile on His face.
