I Am Poem by robert dickerson

I Am

I am, this evening, God of Love,
a handsome walnut tree-
boughs trickling moonlight,
the height of five men
pity my darkening crown is hung
with unsung fruit.

God of amorous winds, now send
your breath into my hair;
Shake the bough's bounty down
Rake the moon-drunk haul now
high on the branch, of little use
to anyone
