I Am A Poet Poem by Keli Mims

I am a poet speaking through writing,
Like a tourist sight seeing.
A musician breathes music,
Or a bulimic getting sick.
An artist's expression through art,
Or a girl fixing her broken heart.
A new bore babe crying,
Or an elderly person dying.
An actor putting on a play,
Or a liar watching what they say.


A patient praying for every breath,
Or a lonely boy praying for death.
A photographer wanting every shot,
A thief that was caught.
It's our way of life,
Through joy and strife.
I'm not just a poet writing,
I'm a little girl fighting.
Fighting for truth,
While still in my youth.


I am a poet who writes words,
That are as sharp as an assassin's sword.
I am a poet who speaks my mind,
Love and dreams I try to find.
I am a poet who is different,
A fallen angel God never meant.
I am a poet who's words cry,
A girl that can only try.
I am a poet in the world,
The last of the American girls.
