I Ask Not For Riches Poem by John Oluwadunjoye

I Ask Not For Riches

simple attires are good
fancy mostly are the best
but who am I to be picky
I go for what I can afford.

cars are fast
exotic cars are faster
I hope we do not forget
the point is to be safe while sojourning through life.

watches are always right
Rolex watches are never wrong
same yet different
both still tells the same time.

shoes are nice
sneakers and Italians are more profiling
we walk same paths in it
yet with both we find it hard to work in the other's shoe.

the poor man must be dumb
cos only the rich could we hear
sir can you speak louder
or do the Giants make you fear.

as it is, we all can agree that the world is unfair
it's difficult to hope in the other to deliver
but I have come to a conclusion
it's better to be content than to be greedy in other to contend.

so I believe in no one other than myself,
so please I beg you do not criticize
you have no F***ING idea what I'm doing to be alive

we forget easily that we brought nothing
yet we act like we take them with us
so is all not vain at the end?
seven generations at most you still get forgotten
yet it shags you like a hot chick u've just gotten
so why do u have to bragas if it's eternal
sometimes you are lucky if anyone even found ur journal.

so what's ur bearing I mean what's ur drive
It be better to be useful when absent than to be useless when arrived
well, I wish for more in little cos I know all is vain
I'm truly okay with what I have
which is why I ask not for riches, but to be able to survive
