I Can't Believe Poem by Mary Champion

I Can't Believe

I understand the unity
of all I know.
I know all the diversity;
the ways to go.
I understand the unity
and even the diversity.
I know about eternity,
but don't believe a thing.

I still need confirmation
of what I know.
I have an explanation
I dare not show.
I understand the agony.
I even glimpsed the ecstasy.
I could explain the mystery,
but don't believe a thing.

I've seen the lost dimension,
but what's the use?
It's faith, not comprehension
will turn me loose.
I've felt the power that orders me.
I've heard the words it whispers me.
I know it's doubt that hinders me,
but can't believe a thing.

I understand the unity,
but can't believe.
I can't accept the symmetry
that I perceive.
I'm searching for the fatal flaw
that makes a lie of what I saw.
Coincidence! I shall ignore.
I can't believe a thing.

So where's the confirmation
That this is truth?
I have an explanation
without the proof.
Whatever made this soul of mine
seek order and infer design,
let me accept the things I find.
Don't make me understand.
Let me escape from searching pain,
don't let me question why again.
I've had my answers, but in vain.
I can't believe it's planned.
