I Had A Dream Poem by Sheldon Carruthers

I Had A Dream

I had a dream in days gone by but that dream did die
and wastrels flock to run a mock upon the tainted sky
for death I plead but where it leads may not in heaven reside
my pride is strong but it won't be long before I am denied
I cannot cry I don't know why still my heart is filled with dread
the emptiness inside me brings me restlessness
If only I could see some light these feelings might abate
to create some sunshine in this bitter winter cold but maybe its to late
