I Never Hated You Poem by Patrick Rylands

I Never Hated You

Rating: 5.0

As we walked in the fire
As we talked of desires
You lifted me to drink from the cup of life
I pulled you after me, a tandem of love
I never hated you at all.

Tears of youth and lessons in truth
I followed you and you followed me
Daring each other into otherness
Funny now to see you again, calmer, older, like me
I think of you every day and sometimes want to call you to say
I never hated you at all

The losses in life
Conversations at night
You slept, dreaming me awake
Wondering if our moon might shine
I cried lost tears for your fears
And for thirty-three years
Your ambitions were mine
I never told you
I never hated you at all

And after the laughter
When praise became epitaph
Our ciphers passed into your children
Playing the games we once made

I do not envy you your heaven
You stood years alongside my blue-eye
My watery depths of deceit
I loved you, you see
A something always said too late

I adored you more than I can say
I sucked you in like pollen
Flew on the sound of your voice
You were the reason for living

I never hated you at all
