I Reached For The Sky Poem by Sinclair Rogers

I Reached For The Sky

I reached for the sky-
And touched the stars!

Unsatisfied, I ventured beyond…
But instead of the luster
Of dream's illumination,
I found, in reality, Event Horizons,
Empty lips kissing countless Black Holes-
Sucking the life out of me…
For dreams once realized
Fell far short of illusions;

In the light years it took to reach the beyond
(Amid my folly of voiding the known for the unknown-
(Real love for the quest of a mythical ecstasy) ,
My scope had expanded exponentially,
Obliterating the impetus of my journey-
A voyage of immature origin,
In an antiquated starship-
For reality had traveled faster
Than my spaceship's speed of light,
And my probe, unknown (to me) ,
Had long since been discovered wanting,
Rendered vacuously naïve, and absurd!

So, having arrived,
Here I exist,
Alien and alone,
Infinitely beyond my Rubicon,
Wandering in vast emptiness…
Past reaches of all hope of returning home,
To love abandoned-
Where dreams were yet to be,
And reality is not
This nothingness….
