I Remember Poem by bob barci

I Remember

I remember
the Barci Family Reunion Picnics
at The Valley Stream State Park
in the early to mid 1960s.
They were soo cool
and soo much fun.
I remember
for days before it
Mom would be obsessed
with making tons and tons
of her self-proclaimed, world famous, macaroni salad.
Every container available in the house
would end up being filled with it.
She would munch on it as she made it.
She’d tell us
that it was the best on the Earth,
and sooo good,
and sooo delish,
she expected every little morsel of it
to be gobbled up by the end of the day.
Then, when the end grew near,
and there were leftovers,
she became good naturedly upset.
How could this possibly happen?
She would try to get family members to take some home.
She’d try to pawn some off on total strangers at nearby tables.
If any did come home,
she actually did become upset.
She’d say –
“This is sooo good.
Why wasn’t every little morsel gobbled up? ”
Truth be told,
no one loved her macaroni salad
more than she did herself.
Then, for days,
Dad, Sis, and I
would get a heaping spoonful
of it at every lunch and dinner,
until it was all gone.
We would have gotten it for breakfast too,
if she could have gotten away with it.
I remember
The yearly reunion picnics – just stopped.
I don’t know why.
They just never happened again.
All I can do now
is remember.
