I Wandered Unknown Poem by Jean Renwick

I Wandered Unknown

I wandered unknown, among the graven
Headstones made rough-hewn by the weather
The newer glossy marble ones pristine as ever.
Around me is a palette that displays seasonal extremes
As my feet sigh and swish through the grass.
Any visit is apology and prayer
And communion with the silence I can find there.

I wandered unknown, among the graves
With the love, regret, flashback collage of competing thoughts
Or memories; a meditation of sorts.
A particular comfort overcomes me in this place
You feel your duty, but can be a stranger too.
Timeless is the time spent there
A sense of lingering past, present and self, made aware.
