I Want To Tell You Poem by Phillip Dodham Cormier

I Want To Tell You

What can I tell you?
I cannot voice the truth
It hurts me not to be able to tell you
I am a coward, one could say
But, I don’t jump at my own shadow
I could swim with sharks
Climb the highest peak
Yet, when I want to tell you this one thing
I become scared
My voice hides deep within
It is not that I find you terrifying
Quite the contrary
You are an angel
A beauty that words cannot express
Is that what terrifies me?
The fact I do not deserve you
I am unworthy
Maybe one day I will tell you
Chances are I will let the opportunity pass me by
Like all the those opportunities that are now nothing
But fleeting memories
One day I may be brave enough
Strong enough to tell you
