I Was There Poem by mark glaser

I Was There

If I could forget you it would be good,
If I could stop loving you it would be better,
If my memories weren’t so vivid that would be nice.

Bitter I am not,
Your decision I fear might be based on fear.

Did I take you to a place you didn’t want to go?
Were your experiences re-lived with me?

I tried to give you what I have,
In hopes you would discover me.

I felt I was not discovered,
Put in box and covered.

Finding someone that cares for you,
Will watch out for you,
When called upon will be there for you,
Is not common.

But if this can be replaced with others,
Then there is no need for me.

That’s why I have memories,
And you are free
