An opportunity
For my life

It would be

I could go back
To yesterday
To yesteryear

I hadn’t said yes
When I really meant no

I hadn’t said
‘I do.’

If only
You couldn’t
Control me

If only
I could be
Anywhere but here

If only
I could
Run away
From you
From here
From everything

If only
I could
Bring myself
To walk away

If only
I didn’t
Love you

If only
I didn’t
Keep taking you back
After you’d
Lie
Cheat
Steal
Leave
And come back
Begging me

If only
This could be
– Dare I say it –
Over
Or better yet

It had never begun.
