If Riches Could Buy Poem by Michael P. Johnson

If Riches Could Buy

God’s holy eyes search far and wide
Down deep and high above
For Christ He seeks a faithful bride
To share His throne and love

For this! God sent to us His Son
Through perfect love to die
Yet though life’s war He truly won
We still live Satan’s lie

God will that none of us should fall
Nor lose His grace to live
Who’ll come in answer Jesus’ call
His Guide to truth He’ll give

But if salvation one could buy
For silver jewel or gold
The poor and weak alone would cry
Their portion would be sold

Yet few give thought at Easter time
At Christmas, more or less
But most live out a life of crime
Alone themselves to bless

If only they would look within
Would look with eyes so true
They’d see their filthy hearts of sin
They’d pray for birth anew

They’d fear the judgement of The Lord
They’d fear the lake of flame
They’d fear God’s vengeful two-edged sword
They’d fear to die in shame

But Satan has them tightly bound
Through pride, through selfish gain
“Too late” the cry when truth is found
When Christ returns to reign
