If Today Poem by Gordon Hoyles

If Today

IFTODAY 10TH MAY 2019

If you can shave
Beneath your arms
And do your legs
And other charms

Can wear your heels and
Stand the pain with pride
And balance eighteen stone
And six foot four
Without a grimace or
A wobble as you stride

Can wear your piercings
Lashes and extensions too
And smell of number five
Chanel's most famous brew
And can salute with
Swan-like elegance
And ease and cool
That will belie pretence

If you can wear a
Fascinator to one side
And with a smile
Whilst others in the closet hide
If you can do all that
and more beside

Then you're a girl my son.
