The real distinction between
the illuminative and the unitive
life is that in illumination
the individuality of the subject,
however profound his
spiritual consciousness,
however close his communion
with the infinite may be,
remains separate and intact.
His heightened appreciation
of reality governs the rest
of his life and increases
his power of dealing
adequately with the
accidents of normal life.
The mind concentrated upon
a higher object of interest
is undistracted by its own
likes and dislikes, and performs
efficiently the work
that is given to do.
