In Pews Asleep Poem by Michael P. Johnson

In Pews Asleep

While man runs amok, steeped in crime
Peoples are fighting wars
The devil’s working overtime
Churches, to close their door

From chapels here, cathedrals there
Masses and droves right now
Forsake The Truth everywhere
Abandoning the Plough

While countless in sin are dying
Worshippers sit in pews
Religions banners are flying
Propagating their views

Is the clergy, perhaps fatigued?
God’s flock, fallen asleep
Worshipers, no longer intrigued
A harvest they fail to reap

Undoubtedly there’s something gone wrong
The Gospel is not to blame
Why should the devil swagger in song?
Causing this dreadful shame

Should not Christ church look deep within?
Examine how and why
How in the world can truth still win?
Others, for life on high

Does not The Word of God explain?
Are facts not black on white?
Should age of darkness reign again?
Or through God’s Truth, take flight

More fasting, more bending one’s knees
More spreading truth in love
God’s Holy Promise guarantees
A perfect bride above…..
