Innocence Lost Poem by Draven Cestodio

Innocence Lost

Rating: 3.0

Youth and ignorance hand in hand at the time
Raised voices and angry actions making no sense
If only knowledge had been there at the time
The gleam of the blade was intriguing and seemed to be no harm
Even when the boy was grabbed around the throat and the knife against it
Still confused by the situation
Thinking it might be a game
Fear not playing a factor at all Yet there was fear on all their faces
The boy was ignorant and it was good at the time for it would have scarred him
Then when it all passed and the boy was released and they were no longer afraid but relieved the boy thought they had won the game
But when it happened a second time and all the same features the boy saw on the same faces maybe it wasn't a game
Or maybe they thought they would lose again
When the years floated by and understanding came the boy was scared too
Thinking of what could have happened and his close escapes
He rolled it over in his mind glad that he had not been affected
Things are so much better with ignorance in play
