Invisible Assets Poem by Mary Champion

Invisible Assets

Being old is a bind,
but sometimes I find
there's an upside
to that, please believe me.
I'm invisible now
and I like it somehow.
I can walk past a man
and he won't even see me.
No cat calls or whistles,
there's no verbal missiles
to challenge me as I walk by -
I won't register on the male eye.
I can walk down the street undisturbed.
I will pass them all by unobserved.
I'm invisible now
and it's better somehow,
there's some comfort in being ignored -
senility brings its reward.

But in spite of the gains-
there's the aches, there's the pains,
and you miss out on much of the fun,
so, on balance, I'd rather be young.
