Irredeemable Debt Poem by MAHAMMA ADRIANNE

Irredeemable Debt

The journey hath not been an easy one
Obstacles but I passed them all
From grass to grace I have sojourned both
Too many hurdles but I jumped them all
Too many persons I owe much
Contributed they to my bringing up
Mum and Dad I can’t pay thee both
Lent thou too much to my straightening up
Strength and weakness of me thou accommodated all
If parents are sold in the markets, dollars can’t buy thee both
Confess I must I can’t pay thine debt off
IMF or World Bank can’t compare thine lending force
Thine is a debt that thou don’t give time for paying off
Parents how do we pay them back?
