Irresistible Memory Poem by Mary Champion

Irresistible Memory

How long has it been since the night that we met?
How many lost years have we frittered away?
Not nearly enough for my heart to forget,
the mem'ry remains and is strong to this day.
A frisson of fear was the first thing I felt,
which was rapidly drowned in waves of desire.
I should have resisted - not let my heart melt
all lost in the lust only you could inspire.
And why did I feel it was destined by fate?
an illusion we shared - you were foolish as I.
And desire did not fade, nor love turn to hate.
Our hearts were too forceful to fight or defy.
The tears we both shed doused the flames for a while
but you could rekindle them love, with your smile.
