Is It Gold We Seek? Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Is It Gold We Seek?

For passing fortunes round the earth
We’ll run and seek in vain
While through God’s Lamb a second birth
Gives treasures that remain

Yet who gives thought of their tomorrow?
Now today; life should be
Freeing self of worldly sorrow
The truth we fail to see

The truth of He who gave up treasure
Leaving crown and throne behind
Choosing death at Heaven’s pleasure
Endless life for man to find

Truth of Jesus’ wondrous story
Truth of Christ’s awesome plan
Laying aside Heavens Glory
God on earth walked as man

Ever humble ever sharing
Up and down troubled roads
Always loving always caring
Helping others bear their loads

Day by day the cross drew nearer
Crowned with thorns God would be
Would the sight of man be clearer?
When they nailed Him on The tree

Amidst the cheers laughter sounding
Hung God’s Lamb on The cross
His Father saw Jesus drowning
Steeped in sin and shameful dross

Consider well these truths of Jesus
On solid ground or shifting sands
Although this world may never please us
In the next God’s Promise stands.
