Island In Transition Poem by Asolua Fifita

Island In Transition

Calm clear paradise
Blue turquoise
Water
Children playing laughing
Not minding
Fast track cars
Passing by

Cruise ship docked
From afar
A civilization away
Tourist passengers
Touching down on a
Green Paradise
No longer untouched

Two worlds in adjacent
When joined
Whose culture do they follow?
Children watching not understanding
New people as examples of changes
Tourist observing
Island life and wondering
Will they ever catch up with time?

Island life
Do we need to catch up
Or
Wind down?
I guess things cannot simply remain
As it is.
