J.C. Vs E.M. Poem by Masa MbathaOpasha

J.C. Vs E.M.

J.C VS E.M

What a boxing match that would be!
Two authentic spiritual champions
Finally up against each other,
Sacrifice against revenge,
A whip against a sword,
An awakener of souls against a warrior…
But I don’t think they can fight,
Let alone against each other.
We often think they are enemies
But they are like heaven and sky.
They brought us messages
we have yet to comprehend,
they knew things we have yet to know.
The sound of gunshots shatters the nights
as devastated families cry together
for their children exploding in paradise
on the edge of the neglected desert river.
Where the oasis line the way
remains an old graveyard,
a sacred secret place in disarray,
a milestone mark
from Bethlehem to Medina.
Things fall apart
and the blood dimmed tide
is loosened upon the world,
innocence is drowned in anarchy
as the Taliban strip teasers
dance in their human slaughter ceremony
offending Allah thinking they’re pleasing Him,
hoping and hoping
as if by their weak faith
the spirit of the earth would heal
and rise high upon the vast shadows
covering the struggle and the strife of life.
But if paradise exists at the price of similar tears
then God forgive me and be my witness…
I prefer to live and die like an atheist,
orphan of religion and faithless to the marrow.
