To be liberal or not? that is the question,
carefully policing all your views.
The head will give the heart bad indigestion
when it tries to walk in someone else's shoes.
It's hard work, being lib'ral and inclusive,
the human heart is wary of the strange.
It sees the unfamiliar as intrusive
and doesn't like it when it's asked to change.
The fascist heart is good at undermining
the open mind that welcomes everyone.
The multi-all-things world the head's defining
inspires the heart to fight or cut and run.
It's such an uphill slog, this being libe'ral,
though heads believe sincerely in the role,
to reason with emotion's ineffectual,
if you don't understand the Human soul.
