Jungle Poem by Ryan Brodesser

Jungle

I am here
lost and held in natures overwhelming hands.
from steel and wire, and melted fire
now lost and in no demand
people once flocked, aye flocked!
To see the sights I beheld
They filled my halls, their cries echoing off my walls
But now, ah now, there are known to see my sights
People have all left, I am still here
lost among grasping vines, trash
The years and vines have grown long and slow
alone and fearful

I use to be brand new,
a million dollar project
I was filled to the top with projects, they were in every corner
The public all gasped, and stared in astonishment
At all the sights I beheld
People handed in gobs of cash, to see my sights
And to witness the sights not seen
by other eyes
from plants from jungles deep
or from the harshest desert
or half frozen from arctic wastelands
But no more

And me? I’m still here.
waiting for any who wish to see me.
my sights are still here,
overgrown, all over the floor
but still here
my gates are rusted shut
and my doors are locked
but come in come in!
so nice to see you again!
my sights are still here
let my sights entertain
once again

I am so lonely
so very lost
I think, alone
my friends are gone
my halls and walls echo with.. nothing
I see nothing
as I wander along in my mind and the empty halls
my vines of concrete and steel are filled and congested with vines
The electric lights, so fine are gone like the days of glory.
so if ever you ever get a chance
come and see
For I am still waiting.
