Just Enough To Turn Your Head Poem by Francis Poole

Just Enough To Turn Your Head

You glance up from the sidewalk
See a skeleton through the 2nd floor window
And think he/she needs
A roast beef sandwich,
A skewer of mutton,
Some grilled sardines and fries,
Maybe a splash of Vodka & Tonic
Or bucket of beer in the face
Something on which those old bones
May dine on to grow flesh,
Perhaps adding an eyeball or two
To fill the empty sockets,
A pink earlobe blooming from
The chalky skull, a length of sinew
Wrapping around the bony neck
Like a skinny tie
Just enough to turn the head,
Face the crowds below and with
Bluish, slug-like tongue protruding
Between lipless, pearl white teeth
Attempt flawless, prattling speech
