Kestrel Hovering Poem by Bill Wright

Kestrel Hovering

I saw him on the slopes today
The Kestrel
Just hovering
He was twenty feet off the ground
Stationary
Just watching

Out to sea kite surfers were flying
Speeding
Like cars
And there was the Kestrel
In his space
Waiting

I have seen him before
And wondered
How
Just how does he do it
So still
No effort

I couldn't see what he could see
In the grass
Below
Some poor creature trying to stay still
Waiting
Praying

Did the Kestrel finally get his lunch
Who knows
Not me
I just carried on with my walk
Marvelling
At nature
