she strolled into my life
on a magic carpet
of bright laughter
and easy teasing
whispering spells to
wipe away my tears
erase my sadness
and coaxing my smile
out of hiding
blowing sunshine
across my heart
that had survived in shadow
for far too long
throwing open the blinds
and yanking down curtains
inviting in the light
and redecorating
the windows of my soul
in the process
she looked into my eyes
seeking my heart
touching my soul
and finding the unexpected
a kindred
recognition of similar
but different
when she stared into my soul
my soul stared back
into hers
seeing what others
had failed to notice
the unshed tears
the echoes of long silenced
cries of sadness
pain recognizing pain
each desiring to ease the others
both knowing that
healing comes with
time
attention
and nurturance
longing to prove
one to the other
that not all love
hurts or neglects
that love in its purest state
cherishes
honors
encourages and
frees
the beloved
to receive and
love in return
