Kitchen Floor Poem by Lilly James

Kitchen Floor

Lying mangled on the floor
Blood pools around
Her broken limp body
She looks so innocent
Her face so full of fear
How this came to be
The terror that went on
Behind closed doors
Her eyes still open searching for aid
That was needed sooner
That got there to late
What that man did to her
The hammer, the blade
The tears still moist on her cheeks
From begging her husband
Please don’t do this to me
The meaningless I love yous
Before he cut her throat
Before he took the hammer
And whacked her over the head
Before he broke her bones
Arranging her broken body in the floor
The kiss on her cheek like the many before
Than he ran as far as he could
Leaving his wife’s mangled body
Sprawled out on the kitchen floor
