Late Learning Poem by Jennifer English

Late Learning

Confusion rips at her sight
She's just sitting there
With no clue what to say
He's taken her by surprise

With a week of no contact
She'd all but thought he'd forgotten
Now he says he cares
She doesn't know what game he plays

Her heart scares itself
She thought she could let him go anytime
It beats irregularly now
She feels it break as he turns his back

She has doubts that rule her life
How could she let them ruin this?
Her heart had been dormant all this time
Now it trys to show itself

Too late for her perfect ending
Alone and left wondering why
Freezing air rushes her as she leaves the door open
Maybe next time she'll learn
