Lean On You Poem by Janine Alyssa Navarro

Lean On You

my legs were shaking
the rink was too slippery
yet kids around us
were gliding on ice
as if they were born with blades

with wobbly knees and eyes closed
you chuckled at my fright
telling me I’ll be alright
and to step on the ice
and give the rink a chance

I shook my head as I turned red
what if a blade cut my head open
or I slip and fall
you chuckled for the second time
“don’t worry, I got you”

I didn’t know what could happen next
the rink grabbed onto my fear
cold sweat formed on my forehead
but I’ll just lean on you
just as my heart always has
