By Mohammad A Yousef
In the quiet embrace of dawn,
the whispers of the earth awaken,
each blade of grass an invitation,
each leaf a story waiting to unfold,
beneath the vast, unending sky,
the horizon stretched like a canvas,
painted with the hues of possibility.
Walt, you wandered through fields of thought,
your pen a plow, breaking ground
in the fertile soil of the human soul,
where the wildflowers bloom and bend,
where the river sings its ancient song,
and the wind carries the scent of freedom,
each gust a reminder, a gentle nudge,
to live, to feel, to embrace the rawness.
The grasses sway in rhythmic dance,
like the pulse of a thousand hearts,
each tuft a testament to resilience,
to the stories etched in the fibers of life,
where joy and sorrow intertwine,
a tapestry woven with threads of existence,
the laughter of children, the sighs of lovers,
the dreams whispered beneath starlit skies.
You spoke of the common, the humble,
the beauty found in the overlooked,
in the dirt beneath our fingernails,
the sweat of labor, the laughter of toil,
in the shared moments, the fleeting glances,
the connection that binds us all,
a mosaic of souls, each unique,
yet woven together in the fabric of being.
And so, we walk through this landscape,
each step a prayer, each breath a hymn,
as the leaves of grass caress our ankles,
reminding us of our place, our purpose,
to celebrate the ordinary, the mundane,
to find the sacred in the everyday,
to honor the whispers of the universe
that echo in the rustle of the leaves.
In the heart of the wild, we find ourselves,
lost and found in the embrace of nature,
the flicker of sunlight dancing on the dew,
the shadows stretching long with the fading day,
and in this moment, we are alive—
the pulse of the earth coursing through us,
the leaves of grass, a testament to time,
to the beauty of existence, to the freedom
to be, to grow, to simply be human.
So let us gather these leaves,
each one a fragment of our journey,
and lay them at the altar of our souls,
to honor the past, to celebrate the present,
to dream of the future still unwritten,
for in the tapestry of life, we are threads,
intertwined, dancing in the wind,
and the leaves of grass, they stand tall,
reminding us, we are all part of the whole.
