Man Fray

Left You Dry - Poem by Man Fray

For what is left?
Memories of obscured faces
Regrets disguised as relief
Dreams that submerge in waking thought
Like the clarity of fever
Or the confused grace of a dying hand
A sense of perpetual loss
A masochist of my own emotions
Cutting the steadfast ropes
Turning my back to the sparse crowd
With muffled words and a bottle of spirit
Drowning my hopes in gin
Stuck in slow motion
With my eyes open for impact
My face against the block
I could run and be a machine
A horse just always pulling harder
But I know I've left you dry
Drank your whisky till the bottle spins
And dragged you right into Bastille
And that's what hurts the most
That I promised you a future
Then swallowed down the keys
