Leopard Poem by Charl JF Cilliers

Leopard

Eyes of liquid
light prowl,

his stygian
darkness muffled:

when he closes
his eyes

he dis-
appears completely.

But the forest knows.
A sudden squ

eal is severed
by a snapping jaw.

And the living
sigh
as he drags death into a tree.
