L'étang dont le soleil chauffe la somnolence
Est fleuri, ce matin, de beaux nénuphars blancs ;
Les uns, sortis de l'eau, se dressent tout tremblants,
Et dans l'air parfumé leur tige se balance.

D'autres n'ont encor pu fièrement émerger :
Mais leur fleur vient sourire à la surface lisse.
On les voit remuer doucement et nager :
L'eau frissonnante affleure aux bords de leur calice.
