Let This Be The Last Poem by Riitta Gyllenbogel

Let This Be The Last

please, I beg of you,
let this be the last
time
the last thing you ever
request of me
this one thing I know I must
do
I am aware of my obligation.
but please, after this,
set me free!
once all the words have been spoken
and every deed has been done
what more use
can there be
in keeping me
bound?
the contract that I once signed
believing in its beneficence
since then I have found
an instrument of torture
depriving me of room to move,
of air to breath!
I am begging you: please!
let this cease!
let my torment reach its end
and set me free
from every legal consequence
of a simple little mistake
once made
for I swear, if you do not
I will break free!
I will!
regardless of consequence
I will be bound no more!
and I will walk
and I will decide
and I will be
free!
I am begging you to release me
to make things easy
for easy they can be
I beseech you
and I warn:
set me free, and I will go
quietly fading out of sight
but keep me bound and I will go
with a fight!
roaring loud in the darkness of the night!
and all the fires of hell
I will face
never backing down!
truly, the choice is yours,
but I implore:
let this be
the last
time
let me go
set me free,
let this
be
the end.
